Shakespeare and Me
The Department of English Language and Literature joined the global celebration of 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare by multimedia performance on December 27th, 2016. The event was opened by an exhibition dedicated to the great bard, displaying the works of students in four categories: mind maps of the most important Shakespeare’s plays, illustrations of the most famous quotes, traces of Shakespeare in modern pop culture, and photo contest “Shakespeare and Me”.
In the welcome speech, Miljana Djorović reminded the audience of Shakespeare’s influence and contribution to the global culture, primarily in English language and literature. After the speech Jovana Simijonović and Djurdjica Kocić recited several love sonnets. In the next sketch, Milica Jovanović and Katarina Savković appeared on stage as two naive tourists who randomly got into the house thinking it belonged to Shakespeare’s grandson, played by Aleksandra Mihajlović. The sketch was followed by a song about Shakespeare played on guitar by Djordje Mihajlović. In the following skit, which was an adaptation of a scene from the famous TV series “Blackadder”, Dzej Ajeti (playing a theater director) invited Vladica Petrović (playing Shakespeare) to talk about cutting of the famous monologue “To be or not to be” in the play Hamlet, afterwards performed by Danilo Džogović. The next sketch was a parody of the play “Macbeth” in which the doctor (Miljana Djorović) accompanied by his maid (Teodora Petrović), was invited to examine sleepwalking of Lady Macbeth, played by Jovana Simijonović. Finally, the drama program was completed by the monologue “All the world’s a stage” performed by Katarina Savković. In the last part, the audience was given the opportunity to show how much they know about Shakespeare and win symbolic awards.
The entire program was organized by the Department members Ana Andrejević, Anita Janković, Nikola Dančetović and Snežana Zečević.
The authors of the best exhibition works were awarded by the jury composed of prof. Dr Dragana Spasić, prof. Dr. Mirjana Lončar-Vujnović, prof. Dr. Vesna Lopičić, doc. Dr. Mladen Jakovljević, doc. Dr. Danijela Kulić and doc. Dr. Branislava Dilparić.
